Lakes - Zurgersee, Lauerzersee, Vierwaldstattersee, Lugano, Como, Garda - some of the lakes on various routes.

Mountains - the Arlberg massif on the classic route to Venice is a magnificent mountain range in Austria, before the Arlberg railway tunnel.

Countryside - some of the scenic routes are through the vineyards of northern Italy before entering the Dolomites and on the new Cannes route, Venice Simplon-Orient-Express passes through France south of Avignon, before journeying along the Cote d'Azur.
