Contents Rovos Trail Of Two Oceans Angola TanzaniaTANZANIA - ZAMBIA - DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO - ANGOLA, either way An African adventure uniting the Atlantic and Indian Oceans On 16 July 2019, Rovos set out on a new 15-day expedition crossing Tanzania, Zambia, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Angola - the Rovos Trail Of Two Oceans Angola Tanzania. This is the first passenger train to travel the famous copper trail on this route. Rohan Vos, owner and CEO says: “To be able to introduce a new adventure after 29 years in operation is exciting and presents me with a refreshing operational challenge. It’s taken over two years to acquire permission and have our proposed itinerary approved by the respective authorities.” It includes the Selous Reserve, a fly-in two-night safari in the South Luangwa National Park (Zambia) and tour of Lubumbashi (DRC). The train then joins the Benguela line before arriving in Lobito. Please contact the Club for updated itineraries for the Trail of Two Oceans. Itinerary - Dar es Salaam to Lobito / BenguelaDAY 1 The Pride of Africa departs Dar es Salaam and travels the TAZARA line. Guests may freshen up in their suites before joining fellow travellers in the midway lounge car or observation car at the rear of the train. Lunch is served in the dining cars as the train travels the fertile lands of Tanzania towards the Selous. Tea is served in the midway lounge car and observation car at the rear of the train. Dinner is served in the dining cars. Overnight at Fuga Halt. DAY 2 Breakfast is served in the dining cars until departure at 07h00. Game visit in the Selous Game Reserve, the largest in Africa at 55 000km² (time permitting). Return to the train. Lunch is served in the dining cars as the train passes the Udzungwa Mountains. Tea is served in the midway lounge car and observation car at the rear of the train. Dinner is served in the dining cars. Overnight at Mlimba. DAY 3 Please ensure the Manager/Gift Shop is in possession of passports and ALL completed forms. Lectures will be given during the course of the morning and/or afternoon in the midway lounge car. Breakfast is served in the dining cars until 10h00 as the train ascends the escarpment negotiating the hills and valleys with dramatic tunnels, switchbacks and viaducts. Arrive at Makambako where guests may enjoy a stroll through the town – time permitting. Lunch is served in the dining cars as the train passes forests of Baobabs. Tea is served in the midway lounge car and observation car at the rear of the train. Dinner is served in the dining cars as the train travels via Mbeya to Tunduma for the overnight stop. DAY 4 Breakfast is served in the dining cars until 10h00. Tanzanian and Zambian border formalities take place. Lunch is served in the dining cars as the train travels in a southwesterly direction. Disembark at Kasama for an excursion to Chisimba Falls. Depart Kasama at 18h00. Dinner is served in the dining cars. Overnight at Mpika. Please pack a small overnight bag for the two-night stay at the game lodge. DAY 5 Please ensure that you have obtained your passport from the Train Manager/Gift Shop. Breakfast is served in the dining cars until 09h30. Disembark and transfer to Mpika Airport for a chartered flight to the South Luangwa National Park. Transfer to Mfuwe Lodge. Lunch to be enjoyed on arrival followed by check-in. Afternoon game drive in the Luangwa Valley. Dinner at the lodge. DAY 6 Continental breakfast. Early morning game drive (approximately 3 hours). Brunch is served at the lodge. Afternoon at leisure. High Tea and game drive (approximately 3 hours). Dinner at the lodge. DAY 7 Continental breakfast. Early morning game drive (approximately 2 hours). Breakfast is served at the lodge. Please ensure that your luggage is ready for collection at 10h00. Transfer to Mfuwe Airport for your chartered flight to Ndola, Zambia. On arrival, transfer to Ndola station to rejoin the train. Please ensure the Train Manager/Gift Shop has your passport for border formalities. Lunch is served in the dining cars as the train travels towards Misundu. Arrive at Sakania for Zambian/DRC border formalities. Tea is served in the midway lounge car and observation car at the rear of the train. Dinner is served in the dining cars as the train travels through Kabemba. Overnight at Mushoshi. DAY 8 Breakfast is served in the dining car/s until 10h00. Disembark the train for a city tour of Lubumbashi. Return to the train for lunch served in the dining car/s. Tea is served in the midway lounge car and observation car as the train passes Luishia. Dinner is served in the dining car/s as the train travels through Mutaka. Overnight at Tenke. DAY 9 Breakfast is served in the dining car/s until departure at 08h00. Disembark at Tenke for a visit to the Tenke Fungurume Mine which holds one of the world's largest known copper and cobalt resources. Return to the train and depart for Kolwezi. Lunch is served in the dining car/s. Lectures will be given during the afternoon in the midway lounge car. Tea is served in the midway lounge car and observation car at the rear of the train. Dinner is served in the dining car/s as the train travels towards Mutshatsha. DAY 10 Depart from Mutshatsha. Breakfast is served in the dining car/s until 10h00. Lectures will be given during the morning and/or afternoon in the midway lounge car. Lunch is served in the dining car/s as the train passes Kasaji travelling towards Malonga. Tea is served in the midway lounge car and observation car at the rear of the train. Dinner is served in the dining car/s. Overnight at Dilolo on the DRC Border. DAY 11 Early morning border formalities while breakfast is served in the dining car/s until 10h00. Cross into Angola where border formalities will take place at Luau. Enjoy a walking tour of Luau. Lunch is served in the dining car/s as the train departs for Luena. Tea is served in the midway lounge car and observation car at the rear of the train. This afternoon the train will travel alongside the Kasai River. The catchment of the Kasai River encompasses a vast area (900,000 km2). This ecoregion has an incredibly rich fish fauna. As we travel through the villages of Cassai and Cameia you will have the opportunity to see the local fisherman at work. Dinner is served in the dining car/s. Overnight Luena. DAY 12 Breakfast is served in the dining car/s until 10h00. Learn more about the recent history of Angola on a walking tour of Luena. Depart and travel towards Tchicalla. Lunch is served in the dining car/s. Lectures will be given during the afternoon in the midway lounge car. Tea is served in the midway lounge car and observation car at the rear of the train. Dinner is served in the dining car/s as the train travels towards Kuito where the train will overnight. DAY 13 Breakfast is served in the dining car/s until 09h00. Enjoy a stroll through the town of Kuito. Depart and travel towards Huambo. Lunch is served in the dining car/s. Lectures will be given during the afternoon in the midway lounge car. Tea is served in the midway lounge car and observation car at the rear of the train. Dinner is served in the dining car/s. Overnight Huambo. DAY 14 Breakfast is served in the dining car/s until 09h00. Disembark for a walking tour of Huambo. Depart and travel towards Lepi. Lunch is served in the dining car/s. Lectures will be given during the afternoon in the midway lounge car. Tea is served in the midway lounge car and observation car at the rear of the train. Dinner is served in the dining car/s. Overnight Caimbambo. DAY 15 Early morning departure from Caimbambo. Breakfast is served in the dining car/s until 09h30. Arrive at journey’s end, Lobito Station, Benguela Province, Angola. Optional Extension: Board coaches and transfer to the Hotel Terminus for check-in and lunch. Depart on a city tour of Benguela. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Terminus. Itinerary - Lobito, Angola to Dar es Salaam, TanzaniaDAY 1 12h00 The Pride of Africa departs from Lobito. Disembark for a walking tour of Huambo. Depart and travel towards Boas Agus. Lunch is served in the dining car/s. Lectures will be given during the afternoon in the midway lounge car. Tea is served in the midway lounge car and observation car at the rear of the train. Dinner is served in the dining car/s. Overnight Kuito. DAY 3 Breakfast is served in the dining car/s until 09h00. Enjoy a stroll through the town of Kuito. Depart and travel towards Savinguila. Lunch is served in the dining car/s. Lectures will be given during the course of the afternoon in the midway lounge car. Tea is served in the midway lounge car and observation car at the rear of the train. DAY 6 Breakfast is served in the dining car/s until 10h00 as the train travels towards Kambalala. Lectures will be given during the morning and/or afternoon in the midway lounge car. Lunch is served in the dining car/s as the train passes Mutshatsha. Tea is served in the midway lounge car and observation car at the rear of the train. Dinner is served in the dining car/s. Overnight at Kolwezi. DAY 7 Breakfast is served in the dining car/s until 10h00. Dinner is served in the dining car/s as the train arrives in Sakania on the DRC border. Overnight at Sakania. DAY 9 Early morning border formalities as we cross into Zambia. Breakfast is served in the dining car/s until 09h30 as the train travels to Ndola. Please ensure that you have obtained your passport from the Train Manager/Gift Shop. Disembark and transfer to Ndola Airport for a chartered flight to the South Luangwa National Park. Transfer to Mfuwe Lodge. Lunch to be enjoyed on arrival followed by check-in. Overnight at Kasama. DAY 12 Breakfast is served in the dining cars until departure at 08h00. Disembark the train at Kasama for a morning excursion to Chisimba Falls. Depart from Kasama and travel towards the border. Lunch is served in the dining cars. Tea is served in the midway lounge car and observation car as the train passes Chozi. Arrive in Nakonde for Zambian border formalities. Continue to Tunduma on the Tanzanian border. Dinner is served in the dining cars as the train heads for Mbeya. DAY 13 Lectures will be given during the course of the morning and/or afternoon in the midway lounge car. Please consult your Lecture Sheet for details. Breakfast is served in the dining cars until 10h00. Arrive at Makambako where guests may enjoy a stroll through the town – time permitting. Depart and travel towards Mlimba. The train descends into the Rift Valley and through the Udzungwa Mountains as it negotiates the tunnels, switchbacks and viaducts of the escarpment towards the Selous. Lunch is served in the dining cars. Tea is served in the midway lounge car and observation car at the rear of the train. Dinner is served in the dining cars as the train travels towards Kisaki. DAY 14 Breakfast is served in the dining cars until 10h00 as the train descends into the highlands and traverses the fertile lands of Tanzania towards Dar es Salaam. Early lunch is served in the dining cars. Game visit in the Selous Game Reserve, the largest in Africa at 55 000km² (time permitting). Return to the train. Dinner is served in the dining cars as the train travels towards Gwata. DAY 15 Please ensure that you have obtained your passport from the Train Manager/Gift Shop. Depart Gwata in and travel in an easterly direction towards the coast. Breakfast is served in the dining cars until 09h30. Arrive at journey’s end in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
